The mission of the PJSM Tampa (a non-profit organization) is to promote Indian classical music, especially carry forward the legacy of Mewati Gharana and foster growth of the rich culture and tradition of India and the Indian classical music. The school is also committed to advancing this art form to enrich the already diverse, vibrant cultural environment of the United States.
The values of PJSM Tampa find their roots in the rich Indian cultural heritage as well as the Indian Classical Music, i.e. the traditional “Guru-Shishya Parampara (Expert leader and coach – Disciple way of learning), where knowledge from the Guru is passed down through successive generations by developing a relationship between the guru and the disciple. In this relationship, the respect, commitment, devotion and obedience of the student is critical and the best way to attain the knowledge imparted by the Guru.
It is a well known fact that Indian classical music, highly spiritual in nature, brings peace and joy of the highest level to all. With this in mind, objectives of PJSM are to Impart Indian classical music related education to all its students for their professional and personal development and enrichment.
Provide guidance and knowledge to the students, who have a strong interest in pursuing Indian classical music to become performing artists Impart knowledge to those students, who have a strong interest in pursuing Indian classical music to gain better and deeper appreciation of this beautiful and spiritual art form for inner peace and happiness.
Provide knowledge to the students with keen and inquisitive mind to unravel the foundations of the Indian classical music theory, its aesthetic features, nuances as well as history and facts.
Enrich the cultural and social environment within the communities in the United States by organizing Indian classical music concerts, musical gatherings at social, cultural and religious events, lecture-demonstrations or workshops, student recital and performances.
PJSM Tampa offers classes in Hindustani (North Indian) classical music – Vocals; as well as Tabla (Indian Drums)
